[Encapsulated Postscript]
A file format containing all data needed for high resolution output of a complete layout or image.
Advantages include versatility and portability. Produced by high end image and layout editing applications, can contain type, vector and raster images. Typical uses include saving vector graphics for placement in a layout application; combining vector and raster graphics, for example: incorporating outlined or live type over photographic images; bundling complete pages for output with no need for separate supporting files or editing settings.
