A deep, reflective surface coating can add a rich look and feel to a printed piece for impressive results.
The least expensive coating option is to add a gloss varnish. However, although it will add useful protection, varnish may not add a deep enough gloss on its own — in fact it may actually make a very glossy stock appear duller.
Aqueous coating gives a deeper gloss than varnish. Avoid it on printed pieces that will be handled a lot or will be around for an extended period, such as table toppers – cleaners can dissolve the coating and leave streaks.
For the most durable and glass-like finish consider adding a UV coating. This is applied as a liquid which is hardened by ultra-violet light.
